Whom would you bat for?

Not everything is by choice! Or we just don't accept at times, we make a choice of not making choices. Whatever! Let's assume you'll have to play a game of cricket for any of these captains, who most certainly make these statements at the end of the lost matches.

a) "Oh! We just never played up to our potential. We never took catches, and that left us nowhere. We look forward to do better."
b) "Well.. we were in the run for most part of the game. But one dropped catch has cost us dearly that we ended up losing. Had we been able to take that catch, things would be different."
c) "Oh.. yes! We lost today and that was because Mr. XYZ has put down an absolute sitter. Had he taken that catch we would have won the match comfortably . Its the team that has to take the bitter pill now."

Whom would you bat for? Also, how different will be your answer if the XYZ is you or not you.

( I know its only handful of people reading this blog. But if you care to leave your answers here, I would be delighted.)

B.

As an aside, at times I used to read pre/post match statements, assertions, reasons enthusiastically, but now.. I look back and smile at it, because in real world - they are inconsequential and vain :)

A good length ball out side off stump - an inch difference and a split second late might result in two things - a clinical boundary or caught at slips.

Clinical boundary - commentators shout ' exquisite footwork'

Same footwork, split second late - 'This guy is struggling lately with his foot work'

So, its about the split second.

Btw- watch this video.. Al Pacino talks about that split second :)

If those options are what the captain is talking to media,
a) of course....

and y?? here it is...
One who cannot speak as a team to outsiders and point out one single person for the team failure and who cannot take the responsibility of failure cannot be a good captain.

I long to work for/with ppl who believes and be 'one' with team. I stand by my team in times of crisis. As long as I have such people around, Success/failure doesnt matter to me.

PS: Nice question dude.. Are you going to analyse ppl who comment to this post? :)

options r way too nebulous... choices could vary easily even for slight variation in the context

but,
had that catch really cost the match, then i would go with B

I dont mind going with C too if phrases like "absolute sitter" and "Its the team that has to take the bitter pill now." were not there. How does it make a difference being named or not as long as it(the catch cost the match and xyz dropped the catch...both r facts right??) is fact?
